Joy Wilken Barker, a beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025, in Oak Forest, Illinois, at the age of 61. Born on December 7, 1963, in Chicago, Joy was known for her kind heart, her warmth, and her quirky spirit. She touched the lives of countless individuals through her selfless devotion to others, particularly in her role as a CNA, and she was always a champion for the elderly, the underdog, and anyone who needed her, embodying a free spirit that was fiercely compassionate.
Joy is survived by her loving husband, John Barker, her beloved children; Katie Randolph-Pahnke (Derek), Abigail Barker, Patrick Barker, Jacqueline Barker and Daniel Hiltz. She also leaves behind her loving brothers Dirk Andringa (Michelle) and Van Andringa, alongside many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will carry her memory forward.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Andringa, and her mother, Jane Andringa, who undoubtedly inspired her strong character and nurturing demeanor.
Joy's interests were as varied as her personality; she cherished her time spent traveling, embraced the beauty of nature, and she found great joy in the company of her dogs. Her creative spirit was evident in her love for arts and crafts, drawing, and poetry, alongside her passion for reading which nourished her curious mind.
The visitation to honor Joy’s life will be held on January 8, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at McKenzie Funeral Home, located at 15618 S Cicero Ave, Oak Forest, Illinois.
