Philip "Phil" Schmitz, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, in Country Club Hills. Born on July 25, 1949, in Chicago, Phil was a man of remarkable spirit and intellect who touched the lives of all who knew him.

Phil dedicated an impressive forty years of his life to a successful career at AT&T, where his work ethic and commitment earned him the respect of his colleagues and friends. He was known for his humor, kindness, and intelligence, qualities that endeared him to everyone around him. Phil also proudly served in the Marines for two years, exemplifying his commitment not only to his country but to serving others throughout his life.

A graduate of Leo High School, Phil carried with him a love for learning and a passion for the things he enjoyed. His interests included playing golf, watching the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bears, and avidly tuning into Jeopardy, where his quick wit and intelligence shone through.

Phil's contributions to his community were significant; he served as the 3rd Ward Alderman for Country Club Hills from 1985 to 2001. His service as an elected official demonstrated his dedication to improving the lives of those in his neighborhood, earning him a lasting impact that will be remembered for years to come.

Phil is survived by his beloved wife, Maureen A. Schmitz, daughter Breanne Schmitz and her fiancé Randal Heidbrink, as well as his grandsons Casen, Owen, and Cullen. He is also survived by his sister Kathleen Shaw and brother-in-law Robert Shaw, sister-in-law Carol Schmitz, brother Michael Schmitz and sister-in-law Donna Schmitz, sister Karen Donlon and brother-in-law Pat Donlon, sisters-in-law Kathy Palumbo and Eileen D'apice, and brothers-in-law Greg Palumbo and Jimmy D'apice. Additionally, he leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, along with close friends Noreen Colgan, Patrick McNulty, Chris McNulty, and Denny Nirtaut.

Phil was preceded in death by his son, Philip Schmitz, his granddaughter Harper Ciszar, his father Leroy Schmitz, his mother Catherine Schmitz, his brother David Schmitz, sister-in-law Shelia Cox, and friends Jimmy Colgan and Kathy Nirtaut.

Phil's legacy is one of joy, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
